Phone consultation:
We will schedule a 15-minute phone consult to see if we are a good match to address your mental health needs. During the consultation, I will ask about you or your teen’s history and current concerns. I am happy to answer any questions and schedule an intake if we are a good match.
Please note, I’m in my office on Wednesday.
Intake and assessment:
It is important to understand the problems and how it affects you or your child. The first two to three sessions will be an assessment where we will explore the challenges. Based on the root issue, I will talk with you about how you or your teen is affected, what that means in relation to behaviors and mood, and possible strategies to address the issue.
Below is what NOT to expect from therapy:
- Magic Bullets. Therapy does work, but it can be challenging and requires patience. Habits are difficult to change and it will be a process.
- Things might become harder in the beginning of the process. This is not always the case, but it’s common for people to feel the problem becomes worse before it gets better.
- Only individual therapy with your teen. Parents are a vital part of teen’s life and your participation is essential for your teen’s healing.
What to expect:
- To feel understood and validated.
- To receive feedback and strategies to work with the problem behavior.
- Practice tools and strategies, this might include “homework” to practice at home.
- A treatment plan and therapy goals developed together based on your needs.
